HS Primer Kits | 2K Filler & Surfacer
From: $157.30
Build a smooth foundation with DNA® HS Primer kits. This high-solid 2K primer filler combines excellent build, flow and adhesion with easy wet or dry sanding. Suitable for spot repairs, individual panels and complete projects, it prepares the surface for a quality colour finish.
Use as a high-build filler where levelling is required, or reduce it for a lower-build primer surfacer. It also supports wet-on-wet application, allowing a compatible basecoat to be applied without intermediate sanding when following the recommended procedure.
Available in Grey or White. White can be used untinted or customised with five optional tinters: Green, Blue, Yellow, Red and Black.
HS Primer can also be applied over DNA Epoxy Primer as part of a complete epoxy primer, HS primer, basecoat and clear coat system.
Choose your kit and optional accessories above. Follow the recommended substrate preparation, mixing and recoating instructions for your application.
Description
HS Primer Kits — 2K Filler and Surfacer
A quality finish starts with a well-prepared foundation. DNA® HS Primer is a versatile high-solid 2K primer filler that helps create a smooth, even surface before colour application.
Excellent flow and levelling, strong adhesion and easy sanding make it suitable for spot repairs, individual panels and complete projects.
High-build or primer surfacer application
Use HS Primer as a high-build primer filler where filling and levelling are required. Alternatively, reduce it to create a lower-build primer surfacer.
Once cured, HS Primer can be sanded wet or dry to prepare the surface for your chosen colour system.
Wet-on-wet application
HS Primer can also be applied wet-on-wet, allowing application of a compatible basecoat without an intermediate sanding stage when used according to the recommended procedure.
This is a useful option where the surface is already suitably prepared and no further filling or levelling is needed. High-build applications requiring sanding should be allowed to cure before being sanded and overcoated.
Follow the Technical Data Sheet for the appropriate mixing, film build, flash-off and recoating instructions.
Use over DNA Epoxy Primer
Apply HS Primer over DNA Epoxy Primer as part of a complete DNA paint system:
Epoxy Primer → HS Primer → Basecoat → Clear Coat
Epoxy Primer provides adhesion and corrosion protection on appropriately prepared metal. HS Primer then provides a smooth foundation for the colour coats.
Both primers offer wet-on-wet application options, allowing you to progress through a compatible paint system without sanding between the primer stages when the surface condition and application procedure permit.
Wet-on-wet application still requires the specified waiting times. Observe each product’s flash-off times and recoating requirements before applying the next layer.
Tint your primer to suit your finish
Many DNA custom colours and effects rely on a specific ground coat colour to achieve their intended appearance. HS Primer White can be tinted to provide a suitable coloured foundation, rather than always starting with grey or white.
Choose from five optional primer tinters: Green, Blue, Yellow, Red and Black. White can also be used untinted.
Where the selected paint system permits, matching the primer to the required solid ground coat colour can remove the need for a separate ground coat application. This can save time, reduce material use and minimise overall film build.
The required shade and uniform coverage remain essential. A tinted primer does not replace metallic, metal flake or other specifically required ground coats. Check the instructions for your chosen finish and confirm the result on a test panel.
Add up to 10% primer tinter to White HS Primer before adding hardener.
Mixing guide
Mix by volume to suit the application:
- High-build primer filler — 4:1: Four parts HS Primer to one part HS Primer Hardener.
- Primer surfacer — 4:1:1: Four parts HS Primer, one part HS Primer Hardener and one part HS Primer Reducer.
Mix the primer and hardener before adding reducer. Follow the Technical Data Sheet for induction time and the requirements of your chosen application method.
Suitable surfaces and preparation
HS Primer is suitable for a range of properly prepared substrates, including metals, plastics, timber, craft wood and fibreglass.
On bare metal, apply the recommended DNA Epoxy or Etch Primer first. On unprimed plastic or fibreglass, follow the specified cleaning and Plastic Primer/adhesion promoter procedure.
Its versatility makes HS Primer suitable for automotive refinishing, custom painting, cabinet making, and industrial or commercial projects.
Select your kit
Choose your HS Primer kit from the options above. Add a primer tinter if using White, and a printed mixing cup for convenient measuring.
Refer to our Technical Data Sheets for full preparation, mixing, application, drying and sanding instructions.
