Description
Candy ColorZ™ Candy Paint Concentrates
Create a finish with depth, clarity and vibrant colour. DNA® Candy ColorZ™ concentrates use intense, transparent dyes to produce the luminous appearance that makes true candy paint so distinctive.
Concentrates put colour strength in your hands. Mix smaller batches for airbrush artwork, create subtle colour effects or build a rich candy finish. Different Candy ColorZ™ concentrates can also be combined to develop your own custom colours.
Mix with the right carrier and reducer
DNA FX Intercoat provides the clear carrier for Candy ColorZ™ concentrates. Its low film build and clarity help maintain the depth of the finish.
Mix in two steps:
- Mix by weight: Add up to 10 g of Candy ColorZ™ concentrate to 100 g of FX Intercoat.
- Reduce by volume: Mix one part of the combined candy mixture with one part DNA Candy Reducer.
Use less concentrate for a lighter tint. For the standard colour strength, use the recommended 10 g per 100 g of FX Intercoat.
DNA Candy Reducer is specially formulated for this system and helps minimise mottle and seeding. Using an unsuitable reducer can cause drying, adhesion and colour consistency problems.
Filter before spraying
All true candy paints should be filtered before spraying, regardless of brand. Fine particles known as “seeding” can sometimes develop in dye-based candies, and filtering helps prevent any particles present from affecting the finish.
Strain the mixed and reduced paint through the DNA reusable Micro-Fine Candy Filter, FIL-01. Its 60-micron mesh provides finer filtration than conventional paper paint strainers.
Use DNA Candy Reducer for the correct formulation and filter before application as part of your normal paint preparation.
Choose your ground coat
Transparent candy colour allows the ground coat beneath to remain visible. Light travels through the candy layer and reflects back from the ground coat, creating depth and brilliance.
Use the recommended DNA ground coats for a compatible foundation. Silver Flare metallic creates a traditional candy effect, while metal flake adds sparkle. Changing the ground coat changes the finished colour; additional candy coats deepen and darken it.
Our reference colours are based on approximately four candy coats over Silver Flare. Always prepare a test panel using your intended ground coat, candy application and final clear coat.
Protect the colour and finish
UV performance depends on the complete paint system. Use Candy ColorZ™ with DNA FX Intercoat, Candy Reducer and the recommended ground coats, then finish with a clear coat offering high UV stability and UV protection.
DNA Diamond Clear is the recommended final clear coat for this system. It provides gloss and protection while helping minimise fading.
True candy dyes can fade over time, particularly with prolonged sunlight exposure. The recommended paint system helps preserve colour, with results depending on the colour, application and exposure conditions.
